That , what a showman. Oh, don’t let the Norwegian producer’s humdrum 9-to-5 work ethic or low-key live presence fool you. If anyone knows how to keep an easily jaded audience in rapt anticipation, it’s the guy who captivated indie and techno heads alike with a three-song, 55-minute album– last year’s revival-transcending . And good thing, because this as-yet unreleased collaboration with wanderlust-y Oslo vocalist Christabelle (aka Solale) just keeps snowballing.
Fellow Norwegian producer has been spinning “Baby Can’t Stop” since . Belgium-based duo shared their remix within a widely blogged “” around the same time. Listening to the full eight-minute track now, as Lindstrøm and Christabelle prep for the January 2010 release of their joint LP, it’s hard to tell where Lindstrøm ends and Aeroplane begin. The pulsating Moroder synths, two- or three-note bass line, four-on-the-floor kicks, Paradise Garage handclaps, and live-sounding drum fills could easily fit either’s M.O.; so could the proggy guitar peals, classic-rock organs, or, hell, buskable acoustic strums. All that’s (almost) for sure is that the hallucinatory, stereo-reflecting diva-isms– “What a feeling”, “I go crazy”, etc.– belong to Christabelle. The result: two sets of contemporary disco’s finest at the top of their respective games. And that’s just to start.
