Another day, another fairytale for . The Grammy-nominated country superstar has broken the record for first-week download sales by a female artist with her newest song, off the “Valentine’s Day” soundtrack, the reports.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, “Fairytale” sold about 325,000 units since it dropped last week, soaring to a No. 1 debut on the Digital Songs chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ke$ha’s nearly unstoppable single, “Tik Tok,” will hold the top spot on Hot 100 for the sixth straight week.
This marks the highest Hot 100 debut of Swift’s career and equals the peak that “You Belong With Me” saw last year. That song, however, took 16 weeks to reach #2.
“Fairytale” breaks the digital download record previously held by Britney Spears for her comeback single, “Womanizer,” which debuted on the chart back in October, 25, 2008, and sold 286,000.
Swift is set to perform at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, where she is up for a number of awards including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She recently told that she has no idea how her night will pan out.
“I predict that I will be there. I’m planning on performing, and that’s really all that I can predict. You never know what’s going to happen. I like being nominated for eight, I’m not going to lie. I like that feeling. It makes me smile,” she said. “All I know is that I’m a really, really happy person, thinking about being nominated for eight of them, and I think that’s a gift in itself, so we’ll see what happens in L.A.”
