The 2011 Green Traders Awards winners are…

This year was the sixth year of the Festival’s Green Traders Awards , given by Glastonbury , Greenpeace , The Soil Association , The Fairtrade Foundation and Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS) to the traders who did the most to help make the Festival greener, fairer and more sustainable.

Oxfam’s East Africa appeal

Oxfam are appealing for aid after a severe drought has left more than 10 million people across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya desperate for food. “This is the worst food crisis of the 21st Century and we are seriously concerned that large numbers of lives could soon be lost. People have already lost virtually everything and the crisis is only going to get worse over the coming months – we need funds to help us reach people with life-saving food and water,” said Jane Cocking, Oxfam’s Humanitarian Director

WaterAid’s thanks to Glastonbury goers

Almost 20,000 of you signed our LooQueue petition to encourage the UK Government to reach even more of the world’s poorest people to safe water and sanitation. All these signatures have now been handed directly to the International Development Secretary. Power to the people! “Glastonbury is one of the best places for campaigning,” said Rhian Lewis, WaterAid UK campaigns manager, “People are engaged, interested and they know that by adding support to campaigns like ours, they are helping to change things for the better.” The Lauren Laverne, Eliza Doolittle and Emmy the Great-designed temporary tattoos went down an absolute storm at the Festival.

Record audience for BBC coverage – watch it again online now

We’re pleased to report that the BBC’s excellent Glastonbury coverage enjoyed a record audience reach in 2011, with 18.6 million viewers. BBC Two alone reached 15.7m viewers, a rise of 3.6m viewers compared to last year

Thousands get Heart Mum tattoos

The White Ribbon Alliance’s Tattoo Parlour in The Park was a big hit again this year, with thousands lining up to get their ‘heart mum’ stick-on tattoo – and to send a postcard to their own mum from the Festival.
